Mecca soon to host the world's largest hotel

The Unveiling of the Globe's Most Spacious Hotel in Mecca Soon

For those who appreciate grandeur, gear up for an awe-inspiring unveiling of the largest hotel in the world in Mecca, Saudi Arabia (exclusive to Muslims) slated for 2017. The grand opening in Mecca makes many wonder about other accommodations in Saudi Arabia. Just a short distance away from Mecca, the city of Medina offers a range of alternative options. Whether you're looking to bask in luxury or need something a bit more budget-friendly, the city of Medina has something to offer every traveler.

Covering an astounding 686,000 square feet, the magnificent Abraj Kudai worth $3.5 billion is set to house a staggering 10,000 rooms, 70 gourmet dining options, an all-encompassing shopping outlet, exclusive "royal floors", prayer sanctuaries, and a sprawling convention center. These facilities will be distributed across 12 distinct towers, each equipped with a helipad. The major attraction, however, will be a colossal central dome, touted to be among the world's most massive.

Given the proximity of the hotel to the Masjid al-Ḥarām, the world's most expansive mosque that encapsulates the Kaaba, the hotel is expected to cater to the influx of millions who venture on the hajj pilgrimage annually. Considering the luxurious offerings, guests should anticipate a substantial price tag for a room. With a clear focus on upscale hospitality, 10 towers offer four-star splendor, while the remaining two boast five-star opulence.

As for the architecture, the Abraj Kudai looks like a semi-futuristic, sand-colored, desert version of a 1930s Manhattan high-rise. Inside, London-based design practice Areen Hospitality has been given the task of decorating the vast spaces, a major challenge indeed, especially with no operators in place yet.

But it’s no sweat off the brow of Areen Hospitality, according to Andrew Lindwood, head of design at Areen Hospitality, who told ArabianBusiness.com, “We allow for this and have the experience to respond to such a challenge, without ever losing the creative essence needed to welcome and surprise the guests expected at Abraj Kudai."
